  1. On average, 230 people go to the emergency room each day with fireworks-related injuries in the two weeks before and after the Fourth of July.
  2. Fireworks were involved in an estimated 11,900 injuries treated in U.S. Hospital emergency rooms during the calendar year of 2015.

  3. The type of firework device causing the most injuries over the Fourth of July in 2015 were sparklers, with 1,900 estimated injuries.

  4. Sparklers burn at temperatures of about 2,000 degrees – hot enough to melt some metals.

  5. When it comes to fireworks-related injuries, the body part(s) most injured are the hands and fingers.

  7. Children younger than 15 years of age accounted for 26 percent of the estimated fireworks injuries in 2015.
  8. In 2013, fireworks caused an estimated 15,600 reported fires, including 1,400 structural fires, 200 vehicle fires, and 14.000 outside and other fires.

  9. The National Safety Council estimates indicate 582 people may be killed and an additional 66,900 may be seriously injured in motor vehicle crashes during the four-day Fourth of July holiday weekend. This makes car accidents the leading cause of injury, by far, on the Fourth of July weekend.
  10. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has been tracking car crash statistics for over 25 years, and they show that, on average, 51% of all fatal automobile accidents on the 4th of July are related to alcohol. This is more than any other holiday.

  11. And finally, an estimated 150 million hot dogs will be consumed on the 4th of July.
